Julia Harris

Julia Harris was born and raised in Montreal, and completed a B.A. in Art History at McGill University. She went on to earn a B.F.A. at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. After graduating, Harris worked in printmaking and La Guilde Graphique, and later in book design at McGill Queen’s University Press. She climbed the ranks of a Toronto design firm, after which, becoming principle of her own firm. In 2001, Julia returned to painting full time. She has taught as Ontario College of Art and Design and has sat on juries for the Ontario Arts Council and Ontario College of Art.

Harris is heavily inspired by nature, often examining landscapes and the natural world. Her works carefully study her subject, bringing along with them the meditative energy of the natural world. Through exploring lighting and atmosphere, Harris’ works investigate greater mysteries and the subconscious.
